I have over a decade of experience creating and maintaining functional landscapes that people are attracted to, from intimate small gardens to a 35-acre permaculture site combining two properties.
I design spaces that are harmonious, taking the time to balance all needs and seek out the unique possibilities of that particular place. I want to hear about your dreams and ideas so we can create something new in collaboration.
Working with trees and shrubs in all ways is a passion for me, from propagation and planting to careful pruning, felling, and making use of the wood.
I am committed to using the most natural, non-toxic materials possible in my work, and incorporating plant material on-site to build soil and habitat rather than trucking it away as 'waste'. I am always looking for the simplest, most elegant solution.
For large-scale tree removal needs I recommend Randell and Christina Tocholke of Frontier Trees.
Collecting Araucaria araucana seed, Chile, 2016. With the appropriate APHIS permits, I was able to bring back over two pounds of the seeds and those which germinated were eventually planted out on my former property on San Juan Island. I plan to propagate more of them in Southeast Alaska (I’ve heard there’s one growing in Douglas). The seeds are an important food source in Chile. Thanks to Josh Tucker for the photo and his role as guide and translator on the trip.
I offer free consultations under one hour by phone or in person.
