" Another green earth
will rise from the sea,
I see eagles over fells
sporting for fish"
- from the Voluspa, an old Norse prophecy (translation by Nick Richardson)
Imagine a place where new land is emerging from the sea in the track of a retreating glacier,
where dairy cows once grazed among verdant meadows, and where sandy soil, abundant rainfall and the mineral riches of sealife hold vast potential for growing the future.
Imagine a farm where the interplay of shore and saltwater fertilizes the land, where new crops and methods from across the world are tested, and where a blueprint for post-glacial permaculture is taking shape.
Imagine a destination where men and women find true nourishment and health,
where we learn to co-create life in flourishing ecosystems, and where we are inspired by the beautiful mystery of the Earth.
Today, mankind stands in danger of becoming lost in the grid, trapped in a maze of our own making.
When we surround ourselves with machines, we begin to think the world itself is a machine- a lifeless thing that responds only to force.
When we treat the Earth as a machine, we destroy the gifts of nature.
When we treat our bodies like machines, we become sick all the time.
When we treat each other like machines, we find ourselves cut off and lonely.
When we treat our self like a machine, we lose heart and sink into depression.
We don't have to go this way. The Earth is waiting for us to remember where we are- standing on the living edge of the planet where sky meets bedrock and water flows toward the sea. And the Earth is waiting for us to remember who we are: wise kings and queens on whose decisions ride the fate of ecosystems.
I wandered the globe for thirty years to find one place to call my home, a place so rich with life that it could nurture a new generation of kings and queens who will treat the world as a garden.
Here, where the forest meets the sea in a labyrinth carved by glaciers, we can let our cup be filled by the wonders of nature, and learn to co-create new life as part of a thriving ecosystem.
